PLAYER INTROS
Sports have been part of my life and growth since elementary school. I've had the privilege of playing on different levels of basketball and volleyball teams, coaching and managing at a couple different levels, and watching sports throughout.
Sports can be how we measure our worth, evaluate our progress, and base our identity. I've seen athletics immensely shape my life and the lives of others, for better and worse. Athletics includes narratives of transformation by its very nature.
We as people are often fascinated by the process of change, and this blog offers an opportunity for reflection on how we've been impacted as people by our involvement in sport. We will experience the stories of athletes, coaches, and parents who have witnessed character growth as a direct result of participation in sport.
GAMEPLAN
What is it about people playing an arbitrary game with often confusing rules (try explaining American football to someone who has no experience in it) that inclines us to spend $27.3 billion annually on the NFL, MLB, and NBA combined?
Athletes are the legends of today's mythos. The narratives of overcoming challenge, finding redemption, and the underdog story, come to life in sports stadiums.
As athletes of all levels challenge themselves to get stronger, faster, and more skilled, they also refine character traits that support their growth as individuals off the court. We are fascinated by some of the characters and idiosyncrasies in professional athletes: a certain stylistic "look" they carry, a peculiar personality trait, or superstitions they hold.
This blog will explore those characteristics that separate potential from achievement and raw talent from success. How does an athlete grow as a person, and how does that growth in turn fuel athletic accomplishment?
EXECUTION
Each post will generally follow this format of PLAYER INTRO (introducing the contributor), GAMEPLAN (body of their interview/thoughts), and EXECUTION (a video or coaching point that guest shares to teach a skill related to their expertise).
I'm excited for us to explore together the traits that we see leading to athletes becoming better people, as well as getting some concrete tips to improve our athletic performance across different sports. Subscribe so that you can always be in the loop, being inspired through story and gaining a competitive edge through learning.
